Wedding Bands:

“With this ring, I thee wed”.   THE most famous words recited by couples as they exchange gold wedding bands to seal their vows. Marriage is one of them. It is one of the most important because it is entirely voluntary.  The wedding bands, the universal symbol of commitment and eternity, must also be considered within your economic situation.   It is not necessary that the bride have two rings.  Nevertheless, the decision is entirely personal.

If you do choose to procure wedding bands to celebrate your nuptials, there are a few other points to consider.

1.        Consider the “look” of the wedding band.  It should complement the engagement ring, not overpower it.  The rings should enhance each other, especially if you plan to wear them together.

2.        If you don’t plan to wear the wedding band together with the engagement ring, you may consider a different type of band.

3.        Do you want matching wedding bands?

4.        Consider the width of the wedding bands.  Wider bands may be heavy and uncomfortable in warmer climates.  The bands should feel comfortable when you wear them.

5.        Think of the form of the band:  open framework around the contour of the band, as opposed to an internal flat side of the band, where you can engrave your name and/or your wedding date.

6.        Do you want the bands to be studded with gems?  If so, surrounding the entire band or just the superior side?

7.        Do ponder on this inevitable human fact:  as we age, our bodies may undergo weight changes. Our fingers tend to enlarge with age, so think of the future, and allow a 2mm section on the inferior part of the band to be used for resizing adjustments if you are leaning towards an elaborate band.  You don’t need to worry about this if you choose simple solid gold bands.

8.        Remember, in determining your ring size, the rings should feel comfortable when you are trying them on!  If they don’t, they are not for you.

The time to search for and to purchase your engagement and/or wedding rings should be a special time filled with excitement.  Preparation and knowledge are the most important factors in your decision to acquire the rings that will represent your love throughout a lifetime.
